THE HISTORY OF CLASSICAL PERFORMER
The oldest of the publications that are part of Classical Performer is Trumpet Magazine, which was born in 2012 and soon became a go-to resource for trumpet players around the world. It was followed by Sax Magazine, and successively all the others.
Classical Performer magazines earned their reputation as a trusted voice by highlighting interviews with top classical soloists such as Kirill Gerstein (piano), Midori (violin), David Russell (guitar), Jan Vogler (cello), Richard Stoltzman (clarinet), Jim Walker (flute), Melissa Aldana (saxophone), Cynthia Yeh (percussion), Alison Balsom (trumpet), Li-Kuo Chang (viola), Eugene Izotov (oboe), Jay Friedman (trombone), David Cooper (horn), Thomas Martin (double bass), Milan Turkovic (bassoon) and Gene Pokorny (tuba), to name a few.
Whether through interviews, articles or lessons, through Classical Performer, renowned orchestral performers and professors from leading universities in the United States and Europe share their valuable experience and knowledge: New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony, Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Bavarian Radio Symphony, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, The Juilliard School, Curtis Institute of Music, Berklee College of Music, New England Conservatory of Music, Peabody Conservatory, Royal Academy of Music, Conservatoire de Paris, Sibelius Academy and Mozarteum University Salzburg, among others. With an eye on Asia, Classical Performer also collaborates with a number of Chinese music universities whose faculty members publish their research on our pages.
There are more milestones that consolidate Classical Performer as a reference among classical music publications. The heirs of the celebrated pianist Alicia de Larrocha (1923-2009) collaborate closely with us to make known the various pieces from her archive. The late trumpeter and musicologist Edward H. Tarr (1936-2020) gave us his last interview before his death, published as a posthumous video interview. The film production company Focus Features (a division of Universal Studios) chose us to promote within the classical music industry their acclaimed film Tar (2022), starring Cate Blanchett and featuring music by Hildur Guðnadottir, including interviews with both artists.
Classical Performer has always maintained a strong commitment to equality in the classical music business, bringing inspiring stories starring musicians of all genders, ethnicities and minorities to its magazines. Today it continues to provide exclusive in-depth interviews with our heroes, instructional lessons, articles both insightful and lighthearted, current news and release information, videos, sheet music, and even reviews to help you choose your next instrument or accessory.
